Deadpool Comic Possibly Hints At “Marvel vs. Capcom 4”?

The immensely popular Marvel vs. Capcom series has recently been resurrected after a nearly seven-year hiatus. The last major release for the series, 2017’s Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, was both a critical and financial disappointment for the series. The game’s underperformance seemingly killed the franchise from having any future outside of fighting game tournaments.

But with the recent announcement that the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection will be released on most major consoles and PCs, the hope of a potential new installment in the franchise has been a major topic of discussion in the community.

Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite, aka MvCI, was heavily criticized for removing multiple fan-favorite characters from the X-Men and Fantastic Four over Disney’s then-dispute with 20th Century Fox for film rights. The game also changed from 3v3 tag-team gameplay to 2v2, making it resemble 2008’s Tatsukoko vs. Capcom.

While MvCI was technically the fourth major installment of the series, it is more considered to be a “side game” due to the circumstances surrounding the game. What fans have been hoping for is “a true MvC4” which would bring back many of the absent fan favorite characters and the return to 3v3 tag-team gameplay.

Now, we may have some kind of hint at a future for the franchise via Marvel Comics themselves. In a recent issue of Deadpool, the titular antihero states the following line in his typical fourth wall-breaking style after fighting off a number of bad guys: “They should put that move in Marvel vs. Capcom 4.”

Is this a confirmation of a new game? Not really. The line is more so played for laughs. But the attitude of the series potentially continuing has been felt by not just the fans but also by Marvel and Capcom themselves.

Nevertheless, even if a fourth game isn’t coming for a while, it is still good to see the series make a small return via the new collection.

What do you think? Have the chances of a Marvel vs. Capcom 4 increased following the announcement of the new collection? What would you want to see from a new MvC game? Let us know your thoughts.
