Dancing with the Stars season 35 cast revealed

Dancing with the Stars revealed its full season 35 cast Wednesday morning on Good Morning America, and the lineup runs from a Paralympic gold medalist to a Savannah Banana.

Sixteen celebrities are competing for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, with the two-night premiere airing Tuesday, September 15 and Wednesday, September 16 at 8 p.m. Eastern on ABC and Disney+.

Two of them already starred in dance movies

Jenna Dewan is a trained dancer. Before The Rookie, she worked as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson and starred in Step Up, and she later hosted World of Dance. Whatever the show does with her, she is not learning to dance in September.

Julia Stiles headlined Save the Last Dance in 2001, playing a ballet dancer who takes up hip-hop after moving to Chicago. That was twenty-five years ago.

Booking two dance-movie leads in the same season is not subtle. Fans who complain about DWTS stacking the deck will have plenty to talk about.

Robert Irwin is hosting a new After Party

Season 35 adds a format piece the show has never had.

The first-ever DWTS After Party airs immediately following Wednesday’s premiere at 10 p.m. on ABC and Disney+, hosted by Robert Irwin, who won the mirrorball last season.

Irwin will check in with eliminated contestants and break down the night’s best moments alongside DWTS alumni. That gives the show a live post-episode companion of the kind reality competitions have used for years, and it hands last season’s champion a job on the network.

Elsewhere behind the scenes, Andy Richter, a season 34 contestant, takes over the Dancing with the Stars Official Podcast.

Same hosts, same judges

The panel is unchanged.

Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough return as co-hosts. Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough remain at the judges’ table.

How to watch

The two-night premiere runs September 15 and 16 at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central, on ABC and Disney+. Episodes stream the following day on Hulu.

Sixteen couples, one trophy, and at least two people who have done this professionally before. September 15 is when everyone finds out whether that matters.
