Current look at Monstropolis construction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney is pushing through the transformation of the Muppets Courtyard and Grand Avenue area into Monstropolis. Progress is being made on the new Glob Theater and hanging-door rollercoaster attraction.

Today, we have a look at the current status of Monstropolis construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, thanks to Bioreconstruct on X.

Work is being done on The Glob Theater.

Disney is spending over $22 million on the redo.

The Glob Theater will feature “Welcome to Monstropolis” hosted by Mike and Sulley with a new Randy Newman song called “Welcome to Monstropolis”.

Disney says it is the first song Newman has ever written for a Disney theme park, despite scoring Monsters, Inc., the Toy Story films, and much of the Pixar catalog.

My favorite little hidden detail is the teeth added to the window frames.

PizzeRizzo is gone, and Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will be the new quick-service location.

(Archie is the six-legged Fear Tech mascot from Monsters University, the one MU students kept stealing.)

Mama Melrose’s will become Harryhausen’s, which is the sushi restaurant from Monsters, Inc.

The big new attraction is the Monsters Inc. Hanging Door Coaster

Construction is moving along.

The attraction is being built behind Galaxy’s Edge.

It is still in the bare-bones phase, but it is going up, and some of the track supports are in place.

Parts of Monstropolis will open in 2027, but we don’t know what will open then.

The area will be opened in phases, and the coaster will likely open last.
