Actress Gina Carano is famously suing Disney for her termination from Lucasfilm’s Star Wars. The Walt Disney Company has been stalling out the process. Now the Central District of California Court is demanding that Disney cooperate.
What happened?
Gina Carano was fired from Disney-owned Lucasfilm over a post about the holocaust, saying that people turned against each other because they were taught to hate each other. It was historically accurate.
The actress later filed a lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm for wrongful termination and for costing her the rumored “Rangers of the New Republic” show.
Disney attempted to get the case dismissed and lost. Then they allegedly refused to cooperate with discovery attempts, stalling Carano’s legal team for months. Last week, her lawyers filed a motion to compel Disney, and now the court sided with her.
What information is Disney compelled to release?
Disney has only twenty days to release information about how much other Lucasfilm Star Wars actors were paid for their roles. This information is necessary to determine fair wage information for damage assessment.
Gene Schaerr broke it down on X.
Disney must produce verified spreadsheets showing actor pay across multiple shows—key evidence that will help show the financial harm that Disney imposed on Gina when it unfairly and unlawfully terminated her.

While the court’s order did not give Gina access to everything she was looking for, it made clear we can seek further evidence on actor compensation if our expert concludes such evidence is still necessary after we review what Disney produces in response to this order.

The court also required Disney to move quickly, giving them only 20 days to comply with the order. The order shows the court won’t let Disney bury relevant information in this high-stakes battle by playing procedural games.

Gina Carano responded, saying,
“This is a small breath of fresh air in this long arduous process.
I am grateful to the court for moving so quickly.
I look forward to the details of my case becoming public and clearing my name, which will allow me to continue doing what I love without such brutal discrimination.
I remain incredibly grateful for this opportunity to defend myself against this Goliath.
Thank you

Now Disney is required to cooperate for some of the requested information.
Stalling out proceedings to cost people more money has reportedly been one of the tactics Disney Legal uses. So much for the image of a good corporation.
Frankly, the fact that they would not cooperate makes them look guilty. It was mostly actor payment information.
