Could Gravity Falls Return? Disney EVP of Animated Televison Says “Never Say Never”

Gravity Falls fans may have some hope for new episodes, according to a recent interview with The Direct. Executive Vice President of Television Animation and Disney Branded Television Meredith Roberts said they are in talks with the original creator, Alex Hirsch.

Roberts also said, “Never say never,” regarding more of the popular show.

Gravity Falls ran from June 15, 2012, until February 15, 2016, and had 40 episodes. There were also many tie-in books.

It was an incredibly popular show with a large fanbase. My whole family loved it. In fact, the kids were re-watching episodes just a couple of weeks ago.

Now, while I would love to have more “Gravity Falls” done by Alex Hirsch, I’m not sure how on board he will be.

He stated that the decision to end the show after two seasons was his choice in 2015,

“It’s being finished. This is 100% my choice, and it’s something I decided on a very long time ago. I always designed Gravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer- a series with a beginning, middle, and end. There are so many shows that go on endlessly until they lose their original spark, or mysteries that are cancelled before they ever get a chance to payoff.

He might want to return to it now as it’s still incredibly popular, but past issues with Disney could make him rethink that.

It’s widely known that he had many complaints about Disney. He even shared some of the ridiculous emails that he received from Disney Standards & Practices (S&P).

Some of their issues were with the use of “poopface” because it was a stand-in for “sh*tface.”

They couldn’t’ call an Owl’s restaurant “Hoo-Ha’s Jamboree” because it sounds like slang for a vagina.

A shirt could not say “Chub pup” with a fat dog because “chub” can mean boner.

Here is a video showing some of the alleged changes Disney’s S&P asked for.

He called out Disney in 2021 for selling Pride Month merchandise after axing LGBTQ+ content in the show.

While I would love to see more “Gravity Falls,” I wouldn’t want them to change the characters, ages, etc. I’m not convinced Disney wouldn’t want to make it with them as adults or something like that.

But it sounds like it could come back if Meredith Roberts is believed.
