During the D23 Entertainment Showcase Panel, Pixar boss Pete Docter announced that a Coco 2 film is slated for a November 2029 release.
Pixar is making a Coco sequel as part of their two sequels for every one original film initiative.
Docter said “We are returning to the land of the dead in 2029.”
The original directors are back for this new film and somehow Ernesto de la Cruz (Benjamin Bratt) has returned. Bratt is reprising his role in the new Coco 2 film, which picks up a few years after the original.
Miguel is now a teenager.
Bratt gave this fun synopsis saying,
“He’s a teenager. Still strumming my guitar.
To many of you, Miguel is a precious little boy who sang a beautiful song and brought harmony back to his family, but to some he’s a menace.
Ernesto is back for revenge, sending Miguel on an adventure back to the land of the dead.”
Coco 2 will be the Thanksgiving film for 2029.
Disney loves their sequels, and who can blame them. Most of them have made a lot of money.
But Coco in particular has its work cut out for it. The original was so good it will be hard to beat, or even match.
