This past week, fans of the ever-popular Marvel vs. Capcom franchise saw one of their biggest requests finally come true. During the June 18th, 2024 Nintendo Direct stream, it was revealed that Capcom would be porting seven of its classic Marvel arcade games to the system, specifically from the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.
The collection is the latest in a series of fighting game collections being released by Capcom, following one dedicated exclusively to Street Fighter and the other dedicated to some of their more forgotten series like Darkstalkers. It is the first time any new Marvel vs. Capcom has been released on home consoles in seven years.
Shortly after the announcement, it was revealed that the game would not be exclusive to Nintendo Switch but would also be released on PC via Steam and on the PlayStation 4 (backward compatible with the PlayStation 5). However, one major platform was missing: Microsoft’s Xbox platform.
Following the reveal that Xbox players could not play the collection, many fans online, specifically on X/Twitter, made their voices heard. The phrase “No Xbox” even began trending on the platform.
I was hype af until I saw there is no Xbox version, why not???

A game like Marvel VS Capcom should be on as many platforms as possible. Previous Capcom collections has always been on Xbox too, why is this different? https://t.co/Eed0MdUNYT pic.twitter.com/OdDXqoTfy9
As hyped as we all are for the Marvel vs Capcom collection, I’m very surprised that there’s no Xbox version coming out which means my collection won’t be uniform after this release. Stranger still the new Ace Attorney collection they announced IS getting an Xbox version… pic.twitter.com/UR6KhD9Y6A

WHY for all sudden, did it skip #Xbox despite the fact they put it out on Xbox One in the past years? I am very PISSED at you, Capcom!

Xbox, please hear this plea. The speaker here is an Xbox fan since the early days of the Xbox 360. Microsoft needs to resolve the Engine MT Framework issue with CAPCOM. Please, the Marvel vs CAPCOM Fighting Collection cannot be left out of the Xbox.

Neither Capcom nor Microsoft have commented on the matter, and no clear answer has been given as to why this decision was made. Some speculate that it could be due to low Capcom game sales on Xbox platforms or Microsoft’s continued push towards Game Pass.
However, the most likely culprit is Capcom’s arguably outdated MT Framework engine, which has been used for many games as a default engine since 2006. It is believed that the MT Framework engine, having a harder time porting to more recent Microsoft consoles, made the decision because Cpacom did not see it worth the time and/or money to port it to Xbox.
Hopefully, if enough fans respectfully request that Capcom release the game on Xbox platforms, we may eventually see it happen. Until then, the only MvC games currently playable on Xbox have been Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite.
What do you think? Should the MvC Collection be released on Xbox consoles? Why do you think Capcom skipped it in the first place? Let us know your thoughts.
