Boba Fett Actor SLAMS Disney for Changing Name of ‘Slave 1’ on Star Wars Merch

It would appear that Disney is determined to completely erase the name of Boba Fett’s ship Slave I from Star Wars canon, and at least one Boba Fett actor is not happy about it.

Mark Anthony Austin, who played Fett in the Special Edition of Star Wars: A New Hope, took to Twitter to express his displeasure at Disney’s latest tinkering with canon.

“My ship will forever be Slave1. Nothing. Not even #disney can or will change that. This is the way,” tweeted Austin.

In an earlier article we reported that LEGO was told by Lucasfilm to drop the name “Slave I” from an upcoming Boba Fett playset. Instead they used the generic (and lame) “Boba’s Fett’s Starship,” which is apparently being trademarked.

This is likely part of Disney’s recent diversity and inclusion initiatives, and “slave” is a loaded word current year.

Now it would seem LEGO is not alone. An upcoming model kit will also drop the “Slave I” name in favor of the slightly less stupid sounding “Boba Fett’s Starfighter” moniker. The renamed Fett ship can be seen briefly in this YouTube video.

It does appear that Disney is looking to erase the name “Slave I” from every corner of the galaxy, and we can only predict how longtime Star Wars fans will react. (I predict badly. Very, very badly.)

Hopefully, at least, there will be a logical explanation of the name change in the upcoming Book of Boba Fett Disney Plus series.
