Jeremy Bulloch, the original actor to portray bounty hunter Boba Fett in the original Star Wars trilogy, has passed away at age 75 after years of battling Parkinson’s disease.
From The Wrap…
Bulloch played Boba Fett in 1980’s “The Empire Strikes Back” and 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.”
Bulloch was born in Leicestershire in 1945, and started his acting career in 1958 with commercials before making the leap to film and Television. He got his first big break at 17 and starred in the classic “Summer Holiday” alongside Sir Cliff Richard.
In 1978, while starring in the television comedy series “Agony,” Bulloch received the call that would change his career when he was asked to portray Boba Fett in “The Empire Strikes Back.” Bulloch only did the physical acting in “Empire.” Fett was originally voiced by Jason Wingreen. Bulloch would reprise the role in “Return of the Jedi” where Fett met his fate in the Sarlacc pit but somehow survived which is still unexplained to this day.
Bulloch was a staple at many Star Wars, Doctor Who and other fan conventions. In fact, it was a fan run website, Fantha Tracks, that first reported the news.
Temuera Morrison is currently playing Boba Fett on The Mandalorian. Fett was revealed to be a clone of Jango Fett in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, also played by Morrison. Bulloch’s Boba Fett was never unmasked during the original trilogy, but his popularity within the Star Wars fandom cannot be understated.
The loss of Bulloch is another blow dealt to Star Wars fans in 2020. Just weeks ago, David Prowse (Darth Vader) died at age 85.
Boba Fett was introduced to the Star Wars universe in the much maligned Star Wars Holiday Special in 1978 as the main antagonist in the Nelvana animated sequence.
