Fans of the beloved Australian animated series Bluey can look forward to seeing this charming blue heeler on the big screen.
Announced by BBC Studios, Walt Disney Studios, and Ludo Studio, Bluey: The Movie is slated to premiere in theaters worldwide on August 6, 2027. Following its theatrical launch, the feature will stream globally on Disney+, and air on platforms such as ABC iView and ABC Kids in Australia.
The film synopsis says it will “continue the adventures of Bluey, a lovable, inexhaustible, blue heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad and her little sister, Bingo.”
Original Creators and Cast will return for the film
Joe Brumm, the creator of Bluey, will write, direct, and executive produce the film, marking a natural extension of his creative vision. Ludo Studio’s Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson, and BBC Studios’ Justine Flynn will also executive produce. Richard Jeffery, who directed seasons 1–3 of Bluey, will co-direct the film, and Amber Naismith will produce.
Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack return as Bluey’s parents Chilli and Bandit.
New music will be coming from series composer Joff Bush.
A Cultural and Commercial Phenomenon
Since its 2018 debut, Bluey has become a global hit—streamed in over 140 countries, winning Emmy, BAFTA, and Peabody awards. In 2024, it was the most-streamed series in the United States, especially celebrated by both kids and parents.
The film is positioned not just as an extension of the series, but as an “experiential event for the whole family,” according to Brumm and Disney leadership.
