Blade Reboot Looses Another Director. Will This Film Ever Come Out?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been in a constant flux as of late with many of their productions being shifted around due to some kind of production issue. For example, the fourth installment of the Captain America series, Captain America: Brave New World, has been pushed back to early 2025 despite already having McDonald’s Happy Meal toys.

But one production that has been having constant issues was the Blade reboot, which is set to star Mahershala Ali (Alita: Battle Angel) as the half-human, half-vampire who was teased at the end of Eternals. Originally announced in 2019, the film has gone through a revolving door of writers and directors, with some calling it “unfilmable.” Now, they have hit another major snag.

The Wrap reports that the film’s director, Yaan Demange, has abruptly left the project. This follows the previous director, Bassam Tariq, who left in 2022 due to “shifts in the production schedule.” No reason was given as to why Demange left, only that it was on friendly terms. Yet despite this, the project currently has no director.

Multiple writers, such as Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto, and Michael Green, have been involved in making multiple different drafts of the film. Now, writer Eric Pearson, who is already working on the script for the Fantastic Four reboot, will apparently be writing for Blade as well.

Rumors regarding the troubled script have been making their way across the web, with one of the more prominent rumors being that Blade will instead focus on female leads while the titular hero is doing stuff on the side. Nothing has been confirmed, however.

With the rumors that Ali may potentially depart the project to join the next Jurassic World film, this film may end up going the way of the Inhumans if something doesn’t get worked out. Only time will tell if this vampire fish will turn to dust.

What do you think? Will the Blade reboot ever get made? Let us know your thoughts.
