Bette Midler Says “Hocus Pocus 3” Is In The Works. But Why?

“Hocus Pocus” has become one of the most popular family Halloween movies over the years. When it was released in 1993, it did not do well at the box office, but over time, it has become a cult classic. Then came “Hocus Pocus 2”, which was met with mixed reviews and a Rotten Tomatoes audience review of 47%.

Most of the cast from the original film was excluded from the second film, even though they said they were willing to return. Disney did their usual and made the protagonists all different for the sequel film instead of combining the old and new cast to “pass the baton”.

How do you follow up the middling results of the second film? You make another one, of course!

According to Winifred Sanderson, actress Bette Midler, Disney is indeed working on a third film in the franchise.

She told Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live” that she was sent a new script and “a lot of it was brilliant.”

Right now, it’s just the script, and nothing else has apparently been worked out yet. Midler said,

“We’re trying to figure out what it is, and where it’s going to be, and how much it’s going to cost – all those logistical things,”

A few months ago, Sarah Jessica Parker (Sarah Sanderson) also told Andy Cohen that they wanted to do another one.

I’m not sure how they are going to manage this, given that the second film killed off the Sanderson sisters, but apparently not for real this time….again.

Maybe this time, Disney will try to bring back Max (Omri Katz) and Dani Dennison (Thora Birch), and maybe Allison (Vinissa Shaw). It would likely go over much better with the fandom.

Who knows.

What do you think? Do we need a “Hocus Pocus 3”?
