‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Crosses $1 Billion Worldwide, Becoming Disney’s Third Billion-Dollar Hit of 2025

James Cameron’s Avatar franchise just hit another major box office milestone.

The Walt Disney Studios announced Sunday that 20th Century Studios’ Avatar: Fire and Ash has officially surpassed $1 billion at the global box office.

According to Disney, the film has now earned $1.083 billion globally, including $306 million domestically and $777.1 million internationally. The studio also said “Fire and Ash” is currently the No. 2 global release of 2025 among Motion Picture Association releases.

Another $1 Billion chapter for the Avatar franchise

Most of us assumed “Avatar: Fire and Ash” would hit over $1 billion given its popularity overseas. The last film, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” made over $2.3 billion. It took about six weeks to surpass the $2 billion mark, so it is possible that “Fire and Ash” could do the same; however, it is moving slower than the second film.

Now, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” has become the third film in the franchise to surpass $1 billion worldwide, placing the series among a very small group of cinematic franchises where all three installments crossed the billion-dollar mark.

Disney said the franchise has now generated a combined global box office total exceeding $6.35 billion.

This is also the third $1 billion title released by The Walt Disney Studios in 2025, alongside “Zootopia 2” and “Lilo & Stitch”.

International performance remains key

As I said, like the other “Avatar” films, success is likely due to the strong performance over an extended international run. Mostly in China: $138 million, France: $81 million, Germany: $64 million, and Korea: $44 million.

It will be interesting to see how the film performs in the next few weeks.
