Anthony Mackie Shares Captain America’s New ‘Brave New World’ Outfit

Anthony Mackie’s journey to becoming the next Captain America has been fascinating. His first solo movie as the star-spangled soldier has been delayed and, until recently, had been undergoing heavy reshoots. On the 4th of July, however, the actor delivered a set photo of Cap’s new uniform.

Mackie posted a pic of the new red, white, and blue Captain America: Brave New World outfit on Instagram. It incorporates aspects of Falcon’s and Cap’s MCU and comic book costumes. That’s fitting since Mackie was introduced into the MCU as the high-flying Avenger in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

I’ll admit that this costume is a huge step up from the “You’ve got to do better, Senator” outfit we saw him wear in the Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The shield also has an exciting change.

At least in the MCU, Captain America’s shield typically had a metallic shine to it. In the picture Mackie uploaded, the red paint looks flat, and the unpainted vibranium is matte white.

The look works. Another issue is whether Mackie’s Sam Wilson will cut it as Steve Roger’s replacement. The Disney+ show didn’t help the actor get there, thanks to Kari Skogland directing and Malcolm Spellman’s laughable final episode script.

There is hope, though. Rumors swirled that test audiences didn’t like the original cut of Captain America: Brave New World. It was further speculated that the movie was reshot to tone down the less-than-subtle political messaging.

Such an act could save a movie from disaster, but it sometimes leads to very obvious fluctuations in quality and continuity (See Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four, for example). It also doesn’t help that the merchandise for the film’s original version has hit the market.

Since Brave New World was pushed from 2024 to 2025, the McDonald’s Happy Meal toys have already come and gone. With that, a few significant spoilers were revealed.
