The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, both Mockingjay films and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes join Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14, about five weeks before Sunrise on the Reaping opens Nov. 20.
The odds are in your favor this month, at least if you have Disney+.
All five Hunger Games movies arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, Oct. 14. That’s the four original films plus the 2023 prequel.
The timing isn’t subtle. The next movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, opens in theaters Friday, Nov. 20, which is 37 days later.
Which Hunger Games movies are coming to Disney+?
All of them so far:
-
The Hunger Games (2012)
-
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
-
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014)
-
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
-
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes (2023)
They all land the same day, so there’s no waiting week to week.
How long does it take to watch all the Hunger Games movies?
About 11 hours and 45 minutes, if you go straight through.
The math: the first movie runs 142 minutes, Catching Fire runs 146, Mockingjay – Part 1 runs 123, Part 2 runs 137 and The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes runs 157. That’s 705 minutes total.
Spread over the 37 days before Sunrise on the Reaping, that’s about 19 minutes a day. Very doable.
Who stars in the Hunger Games movies?
The original four star Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, with Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale and Woody Harrelson as Haymitch.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes jumps back to a young Coriolanus Snow, played by Tom Blyth, with Rachel Zegler as Lucy Gray Baird.
If you’ve only seen the originals, Ballad is the one to catch up on. It’s the newest of the five, and it sets up a lot of Snow.
What order should you watch the Hunger Games movies in?
There are two ways to go.
Release order starts with The Hunger Games and ends with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. That’s how most people saw them.
Story order starts with The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is set 64 years before the first movie. Sunrise on the Reaping fits next, 24 years before The Hunger Games, and then the original four follow.
When does Sunrise on the Reaping come out?
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping opens in theaters and IMAX on Nov. 20. Francis Lawrence, who directed every movie since Catching Fire, is back.
It follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada, starting on reaping day for the 50th Hunger Games. That’s the Second Quarter Quell, with twice as many tributes as usual.
Yes, that Haymitch. Woody Harrelson’s grumpy mentor from the original movies, back when he was a kid from District 12.
Ralph Fiennes is in it too, as President Snow.

What else is coming to Disney+ on Oct. 14?
The Hunger Games share the day with Marvel’s VisionQuest, which premieres on Disney+ the same Wednesday, with new episodes Oct. 21 and 28.
So Oct. 14 is a big night on Disney+. Plan your snacks accordingly.
Is Sunrise on the Reaping based on a book?
It is. It’s based on Suzanne Collins‘ novel of the same name, which came out in 2025.
Collins wrote every book in the series, starting with The Hunger Games in 2008. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes followed in 2020.
If you’d rather read before you watch, you’ve got about five weeks.
