Finn and Jake are heading back to the Land of Ooo in a brand-new animated series. I do appreciate the “Star Wars” movie poster reference in the show’s new teaser image.
Disney+ and Hulu have announced that ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’, a new companion series to the original ‘Adventure Time’, will premiere in the United States on June 29. The show will be produced by Cartoon Network Studios and returns fans to the world of ‘Adventure Time’, which debuted on Cartoon Network in 2010.
The new series follows Finn the Human and his best friend Jake the Dog as they take on new adventures in Ooo. The pair will once again encounter bizarre creatures and chaotic situations with the same humor that helped make the original series a global hit.
How will Adventure Time: Side Quests be different?
Rather than focusing on long-running serialized story arcs, Adventure Time: Side Quests is designed around self-contained adventures like the franchise’s earlier episodes. The series aims to introduce a new generation of viewers to Ooo while also appealing to longtime fans who grew up with the original show.
The series stars Sasha Knight as the new voice of Finn, taking over the role previously voiced by Jeremy Shada, while John DiMaggio returns as Jake the Dog. Several fan-favorite characters are also set to return, including Princess Bubblegum (voiced by Hynden Walch), Marceline (voiced by Olivia Olson), Ice King (voiced by Tom Kenny), and BMO (voiced by Niki Yang).
Is Pendleton Ward coming back?
The original creator of ‘Adventure Time’ was Pendleton Ward. He stopped doing the show after Season 5 due to mental burnout. Instead, the showrunner and executive producer will be Nate Cash, who worked on the original ‘Adventure Time’ as a storyboard supervisor.
Cash talked about how fun it was to make the new show,
“Making Side Quests felt like making the original Adventure Time, which felt like hanging out with art school buddies making professional cartoons. That sounds like a big sandwich of feelings, and it was! You’re going to love these new adventures with Finn & Jake!”
Cash’s previous credits include work on ‘SpongeBob SquarePants’, ‘The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack’, ‘Animaniacs’, ‘ThunderCats Roar’ (no one knows why they ever made this show), and ‘Tiny Toons Looniversity’.
The creative team behind ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’ also includes story editor Darrick Bachman, directors Victor Courtright and Niki Yang, art director Nick Cross, and composer Matthew Janszen.
The return of Finn and Jake is finally coming after continued interest in the ‘Adventure Time’ franchise has been proven through shows like ‘Fionna and Cake’, which expanded the universe with its own successful spinoff series.
With ‘Adventure Time: Side Quests’, fans will finally get the focus put back on the original duo and their crazy adventures that first made the series a standout in the first place.
