Adventure Time: Side Quests season 2 premieres Friday, Oct. 2, on Disney+ and Hulu, with every episode dropping at once. The new trailer is out now.

That’s only 95 days after season 1 arrived on June 29. For a Cartoon Network show, that’s about as close to back-to-back as it gets.

What is Adventure Time: Side Quests?

It’s a spinoff that goes back to basics. Instead of one big serialized story, each episode is its own standalone adventure with a younger Finn and Jake.

They take odd jobs, run into cloud people, bother the Ice King and wander all over the Land of Ooo. You can watch them in any order, which is sort of the point.

Season 1 had 20 episodes. The series is produced by Cartoon Network Studios and FredFilms, with longtime Adventure Time producer Fred Seibert among its executive producers.

Who’s in the Adventure Time: Side Quests voice cast?

Plenty of familiar voices are back:

• Sasha Knight as Finn the Human

• John DiMaggio as Jake the Dog

• Tom Kenny as the Ice King

• Hynden Walch as Princess Bubblegum

• Olivia Olson as Marceline

• Niki Yang as BMO

Knight is the newer name here. Jeremy Shada voiced Finn for the original run, and Knight plays this younger version of him. DiMaggio, Kenny, Walch, Olson and Yang all go back to the original show.

Yang also directs, alongside Katie Aldworth and Rose Feduk. Nate Cash is the showrunner.

Why is Adventure Time on Disney+ and not HBO Max?

This is the part that surprises people.

Adventure Time is a Warner Bros. Discovery property. Cartoon Network makes it, and the original series streams on HBO Max. But in the U.S., Side Quests lives on Disney’s streamers instead.

Outside the U.S., it’s a different story. The show rolls out internationally on Cartoon Network and HBO Max starting Oct. 5, according to its listing.

So American viewers get it on Disney+ and Hulu, and the rest of the world gets it on Warner’s own service. It’s an unusual split for one of Warner’s biggest cartoons.

It hasn’t slowed anything down, though. Season 2 is already here.

When does Adventure Time: Side Quests season 2 come out?

What other Adventure Time shows are coming?

Side Quests isn’t the only thing happening in Ooo.

A separate series focused on Princess Bubblegum and Marceline is in the works for HBO Max. That one stays on Warner’s side of the fence.

Adventure Time first premiered on Cartoon Network in 2010 and ran 10 seasons. Since then it’s spun off Distant Lands, Fionna and Cake and now Side Quests.

Distant Lands was a set of four specials on HBO Max in 2020 and 2021. Fionna and Cake, the gender-swapped spinoff, followed on Max in 2023.

Both stayed on Warner’s own service. Side Quests is the one that landed on Disney’s side in the U.S.

Sixteen years later, the dog and the kid are still out doing chores for weird princesses. And now they’re doing it on Disney+.
