A New Dragon Ball Theme Park Is Coming To Saudi Arabia

Get ready all of you Z fighters from across the world. The world’s first theme park based on the popular Dragon Ball franchise is currently in development and will be located in Saudi Arabia.

The Dragon Ball franchise began in 1984 and was created by the late Akira Toriyama. The series followed a young warrior named Goku who quested to save the Earth from various threats and locate the seven legendary dragon balls.

The series has gone on to become one of the most popular Japanese franchises of all time inspiring countless other creators. It even received multiple sequel and spin-off series such as Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super. The series is owned by Shueisha and is part of their Weekly Shonen Jump brand alongside other series like Naruto, One Piece and Bleach.

The project is being headed up by the Quiddiya Investment Company. While nothing beyond the concept trailer is known, they did share some details of what the finished product would be like. The park will be roughly 500,000 square meters (over 530,000 square feet) and consist of roughly 30 attractions with five main rides across seven lands.

Each land will represent one of the seven legendary Dragon Balls, and guests will be able to not only meet their favorite Dragon Ball characters but also see many iconic locations and set pieces. Of course, there will be multiple restaurants, shops, and even hotels.

While this announcement is happy for many, others are not as enthusiastic, largely due to the location of said park. The country of Saudi Arabia is known for its restrictions on certain human rights and the treatment of women and non-Muslims. Many have commented on the announcement, voicing their disapproval.

No opening date has been given for the planned opening. It isn’t even known if they have broken ground yet. If faithful to the concept trailer, this location will be the one destination any major Dragon Ball fan wants to visit.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to the park? Should it have been themed after multiple Shueisha properties instead of just Dragon Ball? Should they have built it in a different country? Let us know your thoughts.
