A Disney Villains Land is Coming to Walt Disney World, But the Details are Vague.

After years of rumors, Disney has finally announced that they are indeed working on a Villain-themed land. However, it won’t be a fifth gate as long speculated, but rather an addition to the Magic Kingdom.

This is likely what’s “beyond Thunder Mountain.”

However, details are very vague aside from one piece of concept art and the promise of two attractions, dining and shopping (of course.)

The seemingly last-minute announcement seems to directly respond to Universal’s villainous land, Dark Universe in Epic Universe, which opens next year. While it’s doubtful that a Disneyfied “horror” area will be as dark as Universal’s, the concept art looks pretty spooky for Magic Kingdom.

Maybe they’ll surprise us?

Here’s the information that’s available via the Disney Parks Blog…

The new land will encompass all your dreams- er, nightmares. The space will be home to two major attractions, dining, and shopping on an incredibly twisted grand scale. “Be prepared, you poor unfortunate souls,” Josh teased. “It’s going to be a fearless new vision for what a Disney experience can be.”

You might have just felt a shiver run down your spine. That’s because preparation is already underway at Magic Kingdom for this new land. Maybe think twice before you indulge in that next shiny red apple…

And that’s basically it. But we know Maleficient will have a huge impact on the land, going by the concept art. I’m sure many eagle-eyed Disney fans will pick apart the blue sky artwork looking for clues as to what this land will contain.

Whenever it’s built, that is.

There’s no date announced and it takes Disney five years to build a single coaster these days. So maybe in time for Walt Disney World’s 60th anniversary? Maybe.
