A Brand New Look At Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes

The fourth installment in the recent Planet of the Apes reboot series and the tenth overall film in the franchise 20th Century Studios (under Disney) has revealed the first look at the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes film via a brand new trailer.

The film serves as a continuation of the previous story but is not a direct sequel as it is set many years after Caesar’s story. The official synopsis stated:

Generations after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes, many ape clans have emerged in the oasis to which Caesar led his fellow apes, while humans have regressed into a feral state. When the ape leader Proximus Caesar perverts the teachings of Caesar to enslave other clans in search of the last traces of a secret human technology, the ape Noa embarks on a journey to find freedom alongside a young human woman named Mae.

The trailer shows that the world of humans has now been fully destroyed by the virus introduced in the first film. All remaining humans are now animals as the Apes begin to develop their own cultures and civilizations, bringing them closer and closer to the setting of the original 1968 film. It can be seen that some conflict between Ape tribes it taking place.

While this series is not an official prequel to the original 1968 film, as some have come to believe, it is offering an alternate origin of the formation of Ape society. It is unknown if eventually we will see the astronauts led by George Taylor land on the planet believing that they are on an alien world like the original.

With the main characters being fully CGI talking Apes, some may see similarities to the recent Avatar series as little to no humans occupy the main cast.

Are you looking forward to the next Planet of the Apes film? Do you think we may eventually return to the setting of the original film series?
