Universal Destinations & Experiences has just released some fantastic new information about the upcoming Universal Kids Resort in Fresno, Texas. The new kids-focused park will open in 2026 and include six lands. Each land will feature popular characters or franchises, including Shrek, Puss in Boots, Gabby’s Dollhouse, Trolls, SpongeBob SquarePants, Minions, and Jurassic World.
According to Sarah Gibbon, VP and executive producer of Universal Creative, the goal of the new park is to allow families to “interact and play together.”
“At each point, we considered how we could design a place especially for kids where they could explore, imagine and adventure with their families and friends. They’ll be able to do all this while being fully immersed in some of their favorite stories – ones full of curiosity, laughter and joy.”

Shrek’s Swamp-themed playground.
This are was build by Shrek to allow kids to play and “celebrate the magic of friendship, warmth of family, and power of love.”
Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob neighborhood
Another section of the park will focus on SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Squidward and Sandy Cheeks and their neighborhood. Here kids can earn their boating license, relax on the beach, and more.
Illumination’s Minions Retreat
The Minions want to calm their Purple counterparts in this water-themed play area. When the Minions are involved chaos ensues.
Jurassic World
Here children can learn about and meet the dinosaurs of Jurassic World.
DreamWorks Trolls Music Festival
Another area will focus on the popular Trolls characters in a “glittery fest” that features Poppy, Branch, and more. Since it’s a music festival expect singing!
Puss in Boots
Another area of the park will focus on Puss in Boots, Kitty Softpaws and Perrito. Here the kitty adoption drive is happening along with rides, sideshow games and food. There is also a sensory garden.
Other areas of note.
The central hub area will feature interactive play areas, shady spots, and a Gabby’s Dollhouse “unique immersive retail experience.”
A 300-room hotel will also be available as a place to stay in the Univeral Kids Resort.
It’s a fun idea, and great for families. If you have older kids I would recommend visiting Universal Studios Hollywood or Universal Orlando instead.
