The Orlando Weekly had just pointed out something interesting now appearing on the D23 schedule.  What’s even more interesting is that it seems they added it to the calendar on the same day that Universal Orlando announced their upcoming Epic Universe Park.

The new panel is set for August 24th, but it says the announcement will be made on August 22nd.

No other information was given, so we don’t know which department it’s even in.

Of course this has led to a lot of speculation

The rumors are flying with suggestsion from a 5th gate (which is very unlikely,) to a Disney airline (also unlikely.)  Another theory is that Disney is after new acquisitions like Netflix, EA Games, tech companies, or Nickelodeon.

 The Orlando Weekly does believe it’s from high up though:

With no leaks on what the secret project is, it’s believed that the announcement is coming from high within the company, with only a minimal amount of people so far involved with the project. That has led some to speculate that the announcement might be related to CEO Bob Iger’s retirement in 2021. The company has yet to indicate who will replace Iger. A decision of that type though isn’t typical for a mostly fan-focused expo, but neither are late additions of “secret projects.”

At the end of the day we have no idea what it is and will just have to wait for D23 later this month. But, I’m excited to hear what it is.

I know I’m looking forward to other panels with info on the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World and what they are going to do with Epcot (Please don’t ruin Epcot!) They are going to have more on the upcoming Disney+ streaming service as well. We just have to be patient.
